Baptisim

Since we are Baptizing people tomorrow, thought I would take a minute to share with you what it means and what it doesn't mean.

Baptism is publicly identifying with Christ. It is sharing His death and resurrection. It is dieing with Him, to self and the old life, on the cross.  It is being reborn in His resurrection to new life under his care and grace.

When Jesus went to the Jordan river to be baptized John said,  "I am not worthy to baptize you.  I'm not fit to tie or untie your shoes."

Jesus said, "Let it be done so all righteousness will be fulfilled."
Christ was baptised to fulfill all the requirements of God's law for us, thus exchanging His perfection for our imperfection.

And like Christ, after his immersion, the Holy Spirit descended on him bodily like a dove and a voice from heaven identified him as His Son, so we who follow him in baptism receive the same. The Holy Spirit comes and we are identified through Christ, by God, that we are now His son's and daughters!

see Galatians 4:6-7

"And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.  And since you are his child, God has made you his heir."

It doesn't necessarily mean we are now religious, self righteous, a member of a particular denomination, or a follower of approved doctrine, or particularly better in the natural then any one else. It just means we are now his sons and daughters and that means EVERYTHING!!
